#sheshines | Eluby

Meet Eluby, a mother whose child goes to our Nsanganiza Care Centre program in Malawi.

Eluby (pictured) has eight children. Years ago, her husband abandoned her and the children. Now, he and his new wife live three roads away. And he refuses to support Eluby and his children.

Eluby cooks, washes clothes, and fetches water for her neighbors. But they, too, are poor. “I have often starved myself to feed my children,” she told us. “I can only afford to send half of them to school.”

Last year, Eluby’s youngest child, Edith, enrolled in our Nsanganiza Care Centre program.

“Now, my daughter eats and learns for free, and I volunteer!” Eluby smiles. “I feel less lonely when I cook with the other mothers. And CRI’s partners give me food to take home to my children.”

But that’s not all. Just months ago, Eluby joined our women’s Bible study.

“I saw how the lessons at the Centre had helped the children and thought, ‘If I go, maybe I, too, can find peace and happiness.’ And I have! Through His Word, God has taught me to love my neighbors, to pray, and to forgive. I hope he will continue to make my life better. I would like to be a light for Him in my family.”

We are thankful to get to tell Eluby’s story and the stories of women worldwide. Because of our sponsors, #sheshines Christ’s light in Malawi.
