Meet Anapaula, a long-time Project Life caretaker in Mozambique.

Earlier this year, a caretaker in our Project Life program, Anapaula (pictured), lost her battle with HIV. While we mourn her death, we celebrate her life.

Our Project Life caretakers remember Anapaula as their matriarch. Every day for seven years, she walked beside them, home-to-home, to visit widows with AIDS. They prayed with her. They planned Bible studies at her side. Many learned to read and translate the Bible with her help. She cared for her work family—and her own—with strength and tenacity, even through her illness.

When we asked our caretakers what Anapaula meant to them, they said this:

“Anapaula was so humble…” “She knew how to talk to others and was playful…” “She did her job well and leaves many memories…” “A strong woman who was a cause of joy wherever she went…” “She taught through her life experience, taught us to love God and people…” “In the neighborhoods, she was a person who spread joy and hope to all patients…” “As a mother, she loved her family and cared for and protected her children.” “Together, we fought for our families…” “A great teacher. Exemplary. Hard-working.” “She was a blessing to all.”

But Anapaula touched more lives than those on our staff. She lightened and lessened the load of hundreds of widows. She served her patients with thoroughness and grace. Today, many are healthy because of her.

Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.” -Rev. 2:10

Thank you, Anapaula, for your faithful work. You will forever shine through the legacy you left behind.
