Elias’s Story

Read about Elias, a boy in Mexico who overcame malnutrition through our Miracle Milk program.

Last October, our international partner in Mexico, Jessica Lopez, introduced Miracle Milk to the students in her tutoring and Bible club. She tells the story of one of the students, Elias, below.

Elias is smart. He radiates confidence and strives to be his best in school. Once, I taught the story of Samuel in the Bible. I asked the group for the name of the priest Samuel visited. I didn’t expect an answer. But Elias raised his hand. “Eli!” he shouted. “How did he know that?” I wondered.

Elias is the oldest of three children. His parents work hard to provide. But they can only afford to feed him twice a day—a plate of beans and rice.

Before I started the Miracle Milk program, Elias showed signs of malnutrition. He fell asleep before I could finish my lessons. He measured small for his age. And he wheezed. With little food, and few nutrients from it, his body had grown weak and his asthma had worsened.

But thanks to the Miracle-mix formula, three weeks in, Elias’s energy level increased. He made it through my lessons, then stayed later to help others. And his airways opened. At last, he, and I, could breathe easier.

I used to fear that Elias’s health would stop him from pursuing his dreams. Now, I only fear that he’ll be taller than me!

We are grateful for our Miracle Milk sponsors! Through them, we not only give children, like Elias, a glass of milk combined with Miracle-mix a day, but the chance to be all they can be.
