About the Program

Across Malawi, poverty, hunger, and lack of access to education continue to threaten the futures of young people. Many families survive on subsistence farming, and when hardship strikes, it is often the children who suffer most—through early marriage, school dropout, or exploitation.

Founded by Father Willard Kamandani and Mable Lwanda, Beauty from Ashes Foundation (BFAF) exists to break that cycle. Through local churches, they bring practical help and spiritual hope to some of Malawi’s most vulnerable: unemployed mothers, elderly caregivers, and children from impoverished families.

In partnership with CRI, BFAF helps bright students from extremely poor backgrounds attend top-tier public boarding schools—opportunities that would otherwise be far out of reach. Each child receives school fees, supplies, and groceries, allowing them to focus on their studies and dream beyond survival.

Rooted in personal experience and local credibility, BFAF is a powerful example of Malawians reaching Malawians—seeking breakthroughs in the cycle of poverty one life at a time.
