Our Story
We met while we were both on staff with Youth for Christ in Denver, Colorado. We were married in 1972 and moved to Powell, Wyoming two years later where Phil had the opportunity to work for United Parcel Service the next 32 years. God blessed us with three biological children, three cross-cultural special needs adoptions and now eleven grandchildren.
We always felt it was important that Pam’s schedule coordinate with our children’s busy schedules. Her jobs included working as a teacher’s aide for the school district, an EMT for the Powell Hospital, a secretary for five departments at Northwest College and then as an administrative assistant for the Cody Missionary Alliance church. She was able to learn graphic design and page layout through these jobs and eventually freelanced on a volunteer basis to help non-profit organizations. During the winter we volunteered as ski patrollers at a resort by Yellowstone National Park. It allowed us to teach our children to be avid skiers and have special family time.
Our interest in the Ray of Light project began in 2002 when our church, First Baptist in Powell, sent a team to Dondo through CRI. We then began a garden to sell produce at the local farmer’s market to send money to the ROL project. In January of 2007 we took our first vision trip to Kenya and Mozambique. We were hooked! We fell in love with the people and what God was doing on behalf of the very poor. God has called us in our retirement to serve the people we love and work with Children’s Relief International at the Ray of Light project in Dondo.
