My Story

I started working with Children’s Relief International as a communications intern. This internship fulfilled a requirement for my degree at DTS (I graduated in May!), but it has meant much more to me than a checked box on my degree audit.

When I hear stories of the very poor in Mozambique, Nigeria, and India, I am overwhelmed by sadness for their suffering, but also by gratitude. I am one of the privileged few to whom God has granted abundance. I have food, shelter, education, a loving family, salvation in Jesus—all of my needs are met, and most of my wants. And now I also have the privilege of sharing this abundance with those who have nothing.

I wake up each morning knowing that my day will be spent helping people like Jackson and Blessing, who have returned to Nigeria to build a school for the poor children in their hometown of Jege. People like Smriti Maity working in the slums of Kolkata to teach children about the love of Christ. People like Pastor Isaiah and his brother Ananth—the G Brothers, as we affectionately call them. These brothers began our Rajah Children’s Home by rescuing  8 boys off the street. Now the number of children in their care has grown to 40. My efforts with our sponsorship program will help these visionary leaders plant more churches, feed more children, and spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to more hungry individuals.

During a recent trip to Mozambique, I met in person the people whose lives have been touched by our work. After comparing the bright eyes, smiles, and giggles of the children in our programs,  with the dazed looks, tattered clothes and distended bellies of those who aren’t (yet!), I can’t think of any work more worthy of my time and energy.
