Hunger Alleviation

Among the poorest families, especially among the AIDS widows, hunger waxes and wanes depending on the season and harvests.

To help, we conduct a food pantry night at our project in Mozambique. During the evening the Gospel is shared and sacks of rice, beans, oil and corn meal are handed out. In Kenya, the distribution of food is an integral part of our Mayatima child sponsorship program. Once a child is sponsored his or her family or caretaker is given supplemental food staples each month.

In India, we distribute bags of rice in Christ’s name in the villages within the Deep Forest and at the Rock Quarry in Rajahmundry. Our project leader writes:

Our people have a strong faith in their Hindu gods. It is difficult to explain that Jesus Christ is the only living God. To get their attention we have started handing out bags of rice. They admitted that never had they received this type of support from anyone. I explained that this gift of rice was very little compared to how our Living God Jesus Christ could help them in their lives. Some have started to ask, “Who is this Jesus? Where does he live? How can he be a living God?” These people’s hearts are hard like the rock that they break, but because of the rice Christ’s name is known.
